ACNE (PIMPLES) Acne is a common problem faced by almost all teen-agers and youth. What is acne and why do we get them. Acne is actually caused because of hormone imbalance. Your skin breaks out because of a hormone called testosterone. Both men and women have testosterone in their systems. In fact, did you know that in order to make testosterone, boys bodies have to make female hormones first? If you have acne, you haven't got abnormal levels of testosterone. You've got skin that reacts abnormally to this hormone. You start producing testosterone around the time you start sprouting body hair. Testosterone tells glands in your skin, called sebaceous glands, to produce oily stuff called sebum. To add to the problem the inside of the tubes that hold each hair become gummy and get partially blocked - giving you blackheads. Put together if sebum blocks the tubes --- you have big acne.
So go to your pharmacist or doctor to get your acne treated. Here are a few tips that will help you know how to treat acne at home.
1. If you have red angry looking acne, don't touch it. If you squeeze now, all you'll do is force the contents deeper into the skin that will make matters worst. And all you'll end up with is redder, angrier acne than you had before. Don't do it.
2. If you have a yellow custard top? Go for it. These beauties CAN be squeezed but there's an art to it. Here's how. Wash your hands thoroughly to avoid trouble and infection. Put a tissue over your finger. Why? Because you want the contents of the spot on the tissue, not splattered all over the mirror. Using the side of your thumb and the end of your finger, very gently start to squeeze. Don't whatever you do, use your nails as this will damage your skin. Stop when you're applying a lot of pressure and nothing is happening and you see clear fluid, rather than yellow grotty stuff and the spot begins to bleed. When you've finished dab it with antiseptic. Once the custard bit is out, the spot will heal more quickly than an unsqueezed yellow top would, providing that you now leave it well alone. Now wash your hands again.
3. Whiteheads and blackheads. If acne is left untreated they may cause this problem. Here the rule is if they're black, squeeze but if they're small, white raised lumps leave them alone. All that stuff about clean hands, tissues and stopping if nothing is happening or you see blood, apply here too.
Tips for acne treatment 1. DON'T TRY TO WASH IT AWAY
Acne isn't caused by dirt. In fact people with oily skin have cleaner skin than average because they wash it more often. But it's a fact that washing too much can make acne worse because it makes the skin dry and sore. So, wash no more than twice a day, using mild soap and water. If you have patches of dry skin, don't worry about putting moisturizer on. It won't make your acne worse. If you're still concerned, use an oil free moisturizer.
2. DON'T NUKE 'EM
There are lots of over the counter creams, gels, lotions and potions. Most contain a powerful bleaching agent called benzoyl peroxide. You'll find the strength written on the label. You might be tempted to go straight for the highest sort, working on the 'let's nuke 'em principle. The likely result is that you'll irritate your skin like mad. It may also go all dry and scaly on you. But if you still are willing to bleach then use the mild one.
3. MAKE A DATE - THE TWO MONTH RULE
If you have been using over the counter remedies for two months and there is no real improvement in your spots, this is the moment to go and make an appointment with your doc.
4. YOUR DOCTOR - THE TWO MONTH RULE
The thing you are most likely to be given by the doctor is a prescription for antibiotics. These will either be topical (which means something you put on your skin) or tablets you have to take every day. Whatever treatment your doctor or pharmacist recommends, follow the instructions carefully and keep using for at least two months. There should be a noticeable improvement by this time. If not, go back to discuss other possible treatments Antibiotics are perfectly safe to take. You should take them for at least two months and then go back to your doc. If they seem to be working, he will probably tell you to keep taking them and give you some more. If they aren't doing their stuff, don't despair - he has loads of other spot busters in his black bag.
5. YOU ARE NOT AN ALIEN - BUT JUST BE PATIENT
Hundreds of thousands of teenagers seek help for acne. You are not alone. You are not an alien. And if people really care about you, they don't even notice your acne, however bad you think they are. But you will need to be patient. Most treatments take time to work. At least two months. And some treatments, like antibiotics will work well but may have to be taken for months, or even years.
6. THE MONTHLY CURSE... OR EXAMS
Acne does tend to get worse just before a period. It's because there is a surge in hormone levels at this time. But boys don't get away lightly either. Being hot and sweaty (particularly after sports like football) makes acne worse. And for everyone, stress - particularly at exam times - is a cue for a mega breakout. This is normal - and of course, even more reason for feeling stressed. Go chill. They'll get better - promise.
7. WATCH WHAT YOU PUT ON YOUR SKIN AND HAIR
Some beauty products are big no-nos. These include pomades and defrizzing agents for hair that tend to cause an outcrop of blackheads along the hairline and some of the heavier cosmetics. And be wary of suntan oils. Not all will make you break out, but some may. Try a friend's first before you buy. By the way, the sun might dry up acne and a tan might hide them, but your skin is still vulnerable in the sun and needs protection.
8. CARRY ON KISSING
You can't catch acne during kissing - go for it!
9. CARRY ON EATING CHOCOLATE
It's a myth that eating chocolate and fried foods causes acne. However, eating a good diet improves your general well-being and this is reflected in your skin.
Common Questions asked about acne problem Does wearing make up cause acne?
It is not necessary that wearing make up causes acne. Acne is caused because of hormonal imbalance mostly during puberty. But you have to take special care while you apply make up and thereafter if you have acne. Make sure you wash any make up tools, including sponges and brushes as often as possible as these become a breeding ground for bugs which can cause your spots to pop up. Stop wearing make up if you have too many spots and you can resume after you have treated them. Don't forget to clean the make up after you come home and and make sure you cleanse your face properly each night.
Do skin toner and moisturizer cure acne?
One thing that you need to know is acne is not caused by dirt, so no amount of cleaning and toning is going to get rid of them. So for treating acne you must consult your doctor and eat lots of healthy food and drink lots of water. That is the natural way to keep you face spot free.
Is it ok to do facial?
It can be a real treat to have the facial done, as they can be very relaxing and make you feel properly pampered. However, you should be aware that they should not be used to help 'treat' spots, as this can be quite dangerous if the beauty therapist is not trained. Sometimes a beauty therapist will also squeeze out any spots and blackheads that if it's not done properly, may cause a bigger problem than before.
What is the best way to cover up spots?
Foundation is okay to use and may give you more confidence if you've got a hot date, but remember to look for oil-free one. Whatever you use to put on your skin, wash your hands or sponge before applying foundation.

Red angry ones
As told above.... i got red spots on my face. i have been patient with them i have been using Garnier Light - Face wash. It works till about 1 hr after i apply it.. But then they again become red. Plz suggest me some other remedies. Thank you
Another suggestion!
Yeah, I've got a whole buncha acne too. Use some rubbing acohol and apply a VERY small amount on your pimple. And if your kinda embarrassed where some of your acne is appearing from, you can disguise it by use a Q-tip or cotton ball and apply it on. Oh and try this! Mix olive oil and salt together and apply it to your face. It really works! I know "oil" but trust me, it works. Don't use products like Proactiv...IT DOES NOT REALLY WORK! Oh and another way to zap pimples is toothpaste and shaving cream! Use toothpaste and apply it to ur pimple and cover it up with a band-aid. Shaving cream works too, apply it on and your acne will dry up immediatly....but don't forget to wash your face even though its gone.Dab garlic juice on your face. It works too, and try smashing an asprin tablet and mix some lemon juice with it and apply to your face daily. Don't stress out and try to keep your hands and hair away from your face! I hope it helped how it helped me!
Red Angry Ones
Try visine (eye drops) - I know it sounds weird but, it works... It is no way a permanent solution but it does take the red out for awhile. The plus side is that it is compact and you can take it on the go. Hope this helps I am almost thirty and I still have red angry ones whoever said it gets better with age - lied....
The Answer is Here.. This Will Help You!
This is not a spam to promote certain products or anything else. I am here to genuinely let you know what has helped me get rid of my acne: benzoyl peroxide (BP)! Yes it works, only if you use it the right way. Using 2.5% BP is just as effective as using the others. I have been using the Proactiv BP lotion for my skin and my skin has been significantly clearer. However do not think that this is the only brand that can work for you or that it is the only brand you should use. There are cheaper brands like Clean and Clear, Clearasil, Neutrogena, etc... just any acne brand containing BP can help you. Some brands are effective and some are not. It takes trial and error. One brand may be better for your skin compared to another. Not every product containing BP have the same inactive ingredients (which can make a difference). Find the BP brand that works for you. &At times, you might have to switch between products.
At night apply it to areas needed, add a generous amount, but do not go too crazy with it. The next morning you should see some change, and sometimes the acne will be completely gone. Apply in the mornings too with a moisturizer. BP helps eliminate acne scars and dark spots, b/c BP is a bleaching agent that can shred the skin and renew the skin faster. It is important to moisture with BP since it can be drying. Use a gentle cleanser, or exfoliating cleanser, but be gentle with your skin, irritation can cause more acne. Exfoliating your skin is important when using BP because the skin is shredding at a faster rate. Baking soda has been found to be effective as a natural exfoliater and mask.
Don't forget to drinks lots and lots of water, it cleanses your system. Taking antibiotics prescribed by a doctor can also make a difference. Wash your face 2-3 times a day, no more than that... anymore can irritate the skin. Wash your face after the gym and other physical activities... Keep your hands off your face and don't even think about picking at that pimple. Use powder to cover acne/dark spots... Use a makeup brand that doesn't break out your skin. A toner can be essential to your skin and help even out your skin. Take multivitamin pills, has been shown to clear skin, especially ones containing zinc.

Nothing Seems to Work?
I loved the article! It gave me a lot more confidence then I did have.
I have been using prescribed medicine for almost a year. It doesn’t completely help but it does make my skin less irritated, but once I put on my make-up (NOTE* its oil free) it causes my face to get red, and makes me seem like I am worse then I actually am. People say that this happens because the friction you make while applying make-up. Is it true?
Carry on kissing.... you can't catch acne...LOL!
I like the candid nature of this article...haha!
Found this page while searching for solutions to acne problem. Apart from the great suggestions given in your article, I've found that it really depends on what result one desire when getting rid of acne.
What I mean is that there are easy quick fix and there are also permanent solutions which require more effort; like dieting, etc. My persistent acne problem has finally been solved after trying out various acne products and reading almost all the acne books out there; I've a short review on my acne website if anyone is interested. Oh yes, I've read the "Acne Free In 3 Days" book too and have written some review on it as well ;)
Hope this will help others who have been seeking help for their acne problems.
Cheers!

"i have been using cleerasil for about 7 to 8 months and it says visabily clearer skin in 3 days well it dont work for me!!"
I recently wrote, -Nothing Seems to Work- but I see where you’re going. I purchased “Pro-Active” -I am sure many of you have heard of there product- I have been using it a little over 3 months. I have everything, the face mask, daily oil control, all of there products. They say its best selling and results come quick, but over all my face has gotten worse. I am sorry but Pro Active isn’t working its magic on me. It gets so tiring of trying product after product to find that it didn’t do much.
I am 14 now and got acne around 10 years old. After frailer after frailer you start to loose hope. People with clear beautiful skin don’t understand how much acne can affect some one. I don’t have it all over but mostly on my forehead is where I break out. I am tired of people looking at me as if I am an “Alien”.
I am going to try the 2 mouth usage, and many ideas others have offered on this site. But is there a cretin amount of people who have used a product, over the counter, prescribed, pills, anything that has shown the most affect?
Please Help.
Tabitha
changing products wont help.
The stress u have with regard to ur acne problem wil reversly effect ur skin negetively!! b cool, u r not the only one who is suffering from it!
My advise for u is to drink water frequently! if ur blood is not pure then it results in acne for sure, only externally applying on em and changing the products wont help. even i had a same problem as urs..... when i realised my blood was not pure enough i knew the ultimate blood purifier was water.. the pollution outside have resulted for impure blood in us.. well its not a serious problem only when we frequently drink water. after we r clear from inside the products work outside!
TRY THIS! ITS NOT EXPENSIVE OR DIFFICULT!

i have the worst acne in my whole school, half because i go to a very small skewl

Acne Treatment - Getting Rid of Acne
I just wanted to comment that I found a great Acne treatment program through a website recently. It's working perfectly. My skin has never been clearer and smoother. It feels sooo great to be acne free!
It's the best acne treatment I've ever tried. I wish my dermatologist had been straight forward about this but instead he just kept prescribing expensive acne prescriptions. Give it a try. You won't be dissapointed.
Check it out and get the program through www.acnewipeout.com
Best Acne Treatments
Do you have acne? That must be hard. But wait – there is still hope.
Read the following tips for getting rid of that problem:
1. Eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. You can easily create juices and smoothies using ripe fruit or consume one salad daily, even as just a side dish. You can also pop in nuts and dried fruits in between meals.
Brazil nuts have selenium while pumpkin seeds contain zinc – both these minerals are lacking in people with acne. So take in lots of these two.
2. Try to drink at least two liters of still mineral water daily. When the skin is dehydrated, dead skin cells remain on the skin which may block pores and promote acne.
3. If you have been prescribed antibiotics to control your acne, remember that antibiotics destroy all kinds of bacteria in your digestive tract – even good bacteria. Without good bacteria, you will have poor digestion, constipation, and be less able to absorb essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients.
This, in turn, may lead to increased acne production since your body cannot expel waste effectively. Toxins pass through your skin instead. To prevent this from occurring, replace the good bacteria in your digestive tract with a good quality probiotic.
Home Treatment For Acne
Many people have suffered
Many people have suffered from acne at one time in their lives. This skin affliction, though it’s common, has negative connotations attached to it that cause self-esteem issues among some. In addition to these negative connotations that this affliction has, there are misconceptions over what causes people to suffer from it. In order to better understand the truth about what causes acne and to better understand how to treat it, let’s discuss what can and can’t lead to an outbreak of this skin problem.
Hormones Lead To Outbreaks
One thing that is often linked to acne outbreaks is the presence of extra hormones in the body. For women, this can mean that outbreaks are more severe during one point in the menstrual cycle than during others. In all people, the extra hormones the body produces during puberty often results in outbreaks of acne, making it a normal part of growing up. In the same way, increased stress often leads to an outbreak, since stress stimulates the adrenal glands to produce more hormones.
How To Get Rid Of Acne
Disagree
I disagree with the article about the fact that chocolate doesn't cause acne. If I eat a lot of sugars or a lot of chocolate I get severe dandruff but when I was younger I used to get more acne!
I have an acne resource on the internet for anyone interested:
Acne Free in 3 Days and How to Get Rid of Pimples and Acne
Using natural ways to get rid of acne
first off drop the soap, once I did that my face cleared up alot. Second yes it does matter what you eat, despite what the "experts" claim. Theres actually a god site about this, and has a program thats suppose to clear up acne naturally. You can check it out at:
http://homeremedyforpimples.blogspot.com/
Hope this helps, later
Very informative, but I
Very informative, but I would stress even more that seeing your dermatologist is essential. No home made remedies like toothpaste, aspirin, hypnosis or other bullshit will help.
And being patient is also very important. It is not cured in 3 days, it's a myth. It takes months and hard work, but you won't believe how relaxed and energetic you will feel about yourself!
I would recommend the following course of actions that did help me:
1. Wash your face and use soap that is not drying your skin
2. Before going to bed use some neutral cleaning lotion
3. Keep fit and eat healthy food
4. Try some natural proven medications only, like Acnezine, that I consider the best acne treatment available.
Good luck!
btw, completely forgot. I

Acne.
Hi, I'm thirteen years old.
Ever since I got my period (when I was ten) I've begun to get acne. I'm not trying to be gross, but I sometimes get it on my chest, on my back, and face. I don't have it bad, but I do get breakouts every once and I while. I do find it embarassing. So, I'm wondering if anybody out there knows a product that really works. I've tried many things, and so far nothing has worked. So, I would appreciate if anybody had some good information out there for me :) thanks!
